Engadget is running a quick post about how Boston, Cincinnati and over 100 other communities have begun using a test message tip-line for law enforcement.
I'm a big supporter of moving traditional law enforcement into the digital age, especially since the population is rapidly moving away from telephones as the primary mode of communication.
Although the most recent media exposure is centered around citizens sending tips and reports to the police - I believe that only accounts for half of the possibilities.
Police departments and security agencies should be sending out crime alerts to people who subscribe to them (specifically want to receive alerts).
I've been sending out Amber Alerts and crime info via Twitter through the RTPPhySec account but that's just through manual entry. I'd love to have the time to automate the process, maybe in the next month or so.
